Cúchulainn is a legendary Irish hero of the Ulster Cycle, known for his superhuman strength and battle frenzy. Originally named Sétanta, he earned the name Cúchulainn ("Hound of Culann") after killing a fierce guard dog and offering to replace it. He is the central hero of the Táin Bó Cúailnge (Cattle Raid of Cooley) and is sometimes depicted as a demigod, the son of the god Lugh.
